About the Project

This Project aims to establish Institutional Repository Services for the University of Manchester.

These services will offer members of the University a means of storing, managing and disseminating their scholarly works. An institutional repository has many potential benefits: it can increase the visibility of a researchers work; help a researcher meet research council requirements; provide useful reports on research activities; improve an organisation's reputation and prestige.

The Project will consider the storage, management and dissemination of academic publications, theses and dissertations, grey literature (e.g. technical reports, conference presentations), and audio visual materials. We anticipate the Repository Services will replace and enhance the basic functions currently supported by Faculty publication databases.

Read the Project scope and deliverables for further information about what the Project hopes to achieve.

A Project Steering Group (chaired by Professor Carole Goble) will oversee project outcomes and progress. A Project Implementation Team will undertake management tasks and major aspects of work. A User Focus Group will provide a platform to capture user requirements, test development interations, gauge user acceptance and advocate repository services.

The Project will run for two years starting 1st October 2007 and is organised into five phases. View the Project plan for the expected schedule or activity
